Everything you didn't know about Es Vedrà
Blue Ocean Ibiza

Although in Ibiza we have many magical corners and dream islets (which are worth visiting), one of those that stars in most of our legends is Es Vedrà and the small Es Vedranell.

Do you want to discover everything about this mysterious place?

Characteristics of the islet

Located in the southwest of Ibiza, Es Vedrà, Es Vedranell and Es Illots de Ponent have been protected as a nature reserve since 2002 in the Parc de Cala d'Hort i Es Vedrà.

The largest in total has an area of 60 hectares and rises 382 meters above the sea, impressive figures compared to the rest of the islets of the Pitiusas.

166 different plant species grow here, of which only 12 are endemic and 1 is exclusive to the islet. All of them are of high botanical, ecological and biogeographic interest, therefore access to the islet is totally prohibited for its preservation.

As for the fauna, you can only find birds, lizards and invertebrates, although for a time it was populated by goats because the islands and islets were used as natural pens (since most of them have an owner).

Legends of Es Vedrà

This is probably the section of greatest interest to visitors, since the vast majority of residents are knowledgeable about all the mysteries that surround Es Vedrà.

Let's see if you know them all.

The UFOs of the islet

Many people claim to have seen unidentified flying objects or mysterious lights around the islet...

The greatest proof of this is the "Manises case" of 1979 in which the flight JK-297 of the TAE company took off from Palma to Tenerife, and when it was over our favourite rock, some red lights that they moved faster than any plane forced the experienced pilot to land in Valencia.

This happened at 11 pm, on the 11th day of the 11th month. We have nothing more to add.

And it is not the only testimony or case related to these floating lights.

The triangle of silence

As if that were not enough, we have our own Bermuda Triangle, which stretches from Es Vedrà to the southwest coast of Mallorca and the Peñón de Ifach in Alicante.

In these waters the strange red lights have been sighted numerous times, and there are testimonies from fishermen, locals and researchers of strange events such as the navigation controls of the boats going absolutely crazy.

Would you dare to navigate the area?

The guardians of Es Vedrà

There is a part taken from our own legends and another that begins with the UFO fever and the triangle of silence.

It is widely believed that there is a giant who watches over the islet, or so a rondalla tells it, in which two brothers go looking for fonoll marí to cure his father and this being catches one of them. To save him, the other must go find octopuses and feed them.

Many divers and fishermen claim to have heard metallic noises underwater, or seen huge shadows and underwater figures whose nature was not too clear.

Getting close is a true test of courage.

The Ibizan Stonehenge?

 magnetic island es vedra

This would explain all the strange occurrences regarding navigation devices and disorientation of birds and fish.

It is said that Es Vedrà is one of the most magnetic points on the planet, this energy emerging from the bottom of the rock and exiting through the highest point: it has come to be compared to the stones of Stonehenge, the pyramids of Egypt and the statues of Easter Island.

What is certain is that the mystical energy of our favourite islet can be felt at a glance, which has inspired numerous artists and has been part of our myths for hundreds of years.

Will you be one of his faithful believers too?

Remember that it is a protected area since 2002 and that landing on the islet is absolutely prohibited without a special permit.

Will you dare to visit its surroundings?

Happy voyage!
