If you like the sea and sailing, you are probably interested in obtaining one of the various licences that allow you to drive larger boats.
The most common ones for amateurs are the sailing licence (titulín) or the recreational boat skipper's licence (PER).
Do you want to know all about how to get the PER? We explain it to you in this post!
Although there are boats that can be driven without a licence, this does not mean that it is the most ideal option.
If you have your own licence, it is undeniable that you will have all the knowledge you need to sail safely and reliably, and know what to do in case of need.
You will also have fewer limitations when it comes to chartering boats; depending on the level of your licence, you will be able to get bigger boats, and go further away from the coast.
Licences do not expire, they only need to be renewed every 10 years, or every 5 years from the age of 70.
Although both licences allow you to take boats of a considerable size, they should not be confused, as this could lead to problems when driving or renting a boat.
In the case of the navigation licence, you can drive boats of up to 6 metres and go 2 nautical miles from the coast, which is enough to go out for a short trip at the weekend.
On the other hand, the PER is a higher qualification that allows you to drive boats up to 15 metres and 12 nautical miles from the coast. It is slightly more expensive to obtain than the titulín, but provides greater benefits at the same time.

The minimum requirement is to be 18 years old in order to begin the process of obtaining the qualification.
If you are of legal age, the first step is to go to an approved school that allows you to obtain this certification.
Once you have enrolled, you must attend the necessary courses and prepare all the necessary syllabus to take the exam.
When you are ready to take the theory test, you must submit the application for the exam, providing proof of payment of fees stamped by the bank, a photocopy of your ID card, and a report on your psychophysical aptitude.
If you pass the theory test, you will be ready to begin the safety and navigation training. Once you've finished them, all that's left to do is the radio communications training.
And you're done!
