If you are planning a holiday in Ibiza and Formentera, there are a number of islands and islets that you should definitely consider visiting.
These smaller destinations offer a unique experience and allow you to escape the tourist crowds on the main islands, as well as discover the hidden history of some of them...
Go ahead and explore the different islands and islets of Ibiza and Formentera by boat!
It has been the subject of numerous news stories, especially for being one of the few private islands in the Mediterranean and for its sale in 2020.
It is classified as a Place of Community Interest and belongs to a Natural Area of Special Interest: these attributions are not surprising, since they are a nesting and breeding place for migratory birds, and marine fauna is very abundant.
You might get to see dolphins on the way!
It is also interesting to know that in 1913 a lighthouse was built to take care of the ships that transit the routes from Ibiza to Palma and Barcelona.
These two islets are located off the coast of Santa Inés, in the north of Ibiza, and are also known as Ses Balandres.
The small rock that barely protrudes from the sea is called Es Picatxo, while the largest is called Sa Foradada (the one with holes) and is the protagonist of most of the images of the area.
The environment of Ses Maraglides is a paradise for divers, since underwater you can find tunnels, arches and large amounts of marine fauna emerging from the walls.
If you are lucky enough to go by kayak or in a small boat, you will be able to pass under the iconic arch of Sa Foradada.
Do you dare?
It is probably the best-known islet of all the Pitiusas due to the number of stories and legends that are told about it (in which we locals like to believe).
8 meter giants, sirens, UFO sightings, goats inhabiting the cliffs, the triangle of silence...
In addition to the myths, together with the younger sister (Es Vendranell) they form the Natural Reserve of es Vedrà, Es Vendranell and the "Illots de Ponent": a unique area of native species and marine life.
And if you visit it at sunset you will take home a unique souvenir!
This paradisiacal islet is located in the Ses Salines Natural Park, between Ibiza and Formentera.
The title of Mediterranean paradise is not an exaggeration: the crystalline waters, the fine sand and the peace that the location transmits make it a unique location in the Pitiusas.
Since it is a protected area, you can enjoy a practically virgin landscape along its charming 2 km, but it can be visited on organized excursions or rented boats in Ibiza or Formentera.
Paradise awaits you!
What is the name for? Calling it "Island of the Hanged" is not a random decision: it is the mark of a peculiar history.
The locals gave it this name because they decided to believe in the legends that are told about this apparently cursed island, where in the Middle Ages the bodies of executed pirates were hung as a warning of the fate that would be met by all those who visited Ibiza with bad intentions.
In 1855 the first lighthouse in the Pitiusas was also built here, and in barely 1 and a half square km, two families of lighthouse keepers lived together with no other shelter or hiding place than their houses.
There is evidence of two shipwrecks in which the lighthouse keepers of that time participated in rescue work, losing their lives in the first and saving the crew in the second.
Will you dare to visit it?
From Blue Ocean we encourage you to rent a boat in Ibiza and visit the islets you want to discover!
